The Koran is a war manual; Islam is a belligerent religion.

Reader comment on item: Islam's Future [Can Be Modern]

Submitted by Richard (United Kingdom), Apr 12, 2004 at 10:48

Islam and democracy will never co-exist. Further, we will fail in our attempt to bring democracy to the Muslim world. There is only one Muslim country that is vaguely democratic and that is Turkey, and their democracy is very questionable indeed. The military plays a profound part there, and Turkey's human rights record is atrocious.

Islam is Muhammad's religion. It is a response to life in pre-Islamic Arabia, to the political and social and economic conditions at the time that Muhammad lived. It is nothing more than that. The religion itself is an attempt to place Muhammad in a pre-eminent position.

It is a book of fairy tales, for Arabs, the chosen and supreme people on earth in Muhammad's eyes, to be comforted and for them to try and rule the world.
