Islam and all that hype

Reader comment on item: Islam's Future [Can Be Modern]

How come when .00005% of Muslims seem bent on causing trouble we manage to put 1.2 billion people on the defensive? Guns do not kill people, people kill people. Same goes for religion. A set of ideas or an ideology will never be responsible for the savage interpretation of mortals.

Lets get one thing straight, Jews and Christians will never be able to force Islam to change. The followers of Islam will have to decide for themselves which way they are headed. This applies to both the rank and file and the militants bent on destruction. Only when the rank and file will understand to what extent the militants endanger their very existence, will a true debate among Muslims take place. However this will not bring about a change in the religion. It might condition Muslim behavior for better or worse.

As for being the fastest growing religion in the west, that is true for the time being. At some point the nations of Europe are bound to hit back. I very much doubt Italians will be willing to live in a society where all their wonderful artifacts are considered to be offensive and destroyed. The same applies to the French, Germans, etc. There will be a rebound and Muslim Europeans will have to toe the line. In fact I would say 9 out of 10 Muslims in Europe prefer to live in a democratic and rather secular society. Just look at the numbers...how many Muslims are heading back to their native lands?
