Is Islam Evil?

Reader comment on item: Islam's Future [Can Be Modern]

Submitted by Daniel Middleman (United States), Aug 13, 2002 at 12:40

This is a very tough issue for me. I have been very angry since the 9/11 attacks. Mainly, I have been angry with the incessant denials of Muslims that there is any Muslim extremism here in America. For some time now I have believed that Islam is an evil religion. My opinion is starting to change now though. I am starting to believe now, that this is not a matter of the religion necessarily being evil. I think this is more a matter of a certain segment of the people in the religion being evil. In truth, I believe as the Bible says, that all people are evil. So, I guess I would say that this is a matter of degree. What has brought me to this conclusion is all the crimes people calling themselves Christians have committed over the centuries. No one can deny this.

I have to admit that my knowledge of the Qur'an is limited. I believe the Bible is the word of God and I believe that people who say there is any evil in the Bible, other than that which is simply a record of people committing evil, don't know what they are talking about. I believe this is one of the central problems between Islam and Christianity. ...

I will end by saying that I believe there are many Muslims who would like nothing better than to see all Americans dead. They may not make up the majority, but I believe the threat they pose is likely to be with us for a very, very long time to come.
