Reader comment on item: Islam's Future [Can Be Modern]

I cant help but be astonished at the lot of people declaring with all sincerity(and arrogance) that Liberal Democracy, that is Western Liberal Democracy, must be applied to Islam, in order to heal the many social, economic and political problems
facing the Islamic world today.
It sufffices to say that these people know nothing about Islam nor its history. They place Islam in the context of a religion, therefore dogma, which must be "rationalized" with Western Medicine. Isnt someone applying the lessons of Christianity and its symptons to Islam? What do Islam and Christianity have in common, in History and teaching?

Claiming that such a flexible, dynamic and rational religion as Islam must be secularized is ignorant enough but to ignore the fact that while this debate is going on, the religion and way of life in Europe and America is rapidly becoming Islam, chosen over Liberal Western Ideas.

To analyze just one Historical fact is enough to do away with all the empty talk of secularizing Islam. One only has to view the condition of Palestine under the rule of the Ottoman Empire as compared to its later course under British Mandate and later under completely Western secular Israelie occupation.
The appliance of the Millet System by the Ottomans ensured all minorities, especially Jews and Christians their freedom and right of property. Special laws for the protection of Jews were created, especially sustained by tumults in 1872. For 600 years nothing was heard of refugees, confiscation of property, unlawfull killing ecs.
Going back to the time of the British Mandate in 1917 one views a list of conflicts, oppression and murder which surprisingly could not be solved and are nourished by secular Democracy, which applies to Israel.

Heading the list of Countries violating Human rights today is secular Turkey. Amnesty International counted 1000 missing persons in 1990, people in conflict with the state.
Atatürk turned secularity into a pseudo religion, forcing people to wear western brimmed hats, closing Islamic facilities and forbiding the Hajj. This is what the Islamic world reieved from the West. It wasnt to long ago that the Mother of secular thought, France, withdrew from Algieria, leaving behind over a Million dead and a tragedy still playing its part today, a tragedy of military personnel dressing up a fundamentalists and butchering entire Muslim communities. Which country could be more secular then Algeria?
