Reader comment on item: Islam's Future [Can Be Modern]

Submitted by Jimmy Cosby (United States), Sep 24, 2005 at 11:33

There are many Moslems , notably, Western Islamic scholars who maintain that Islam is a peaceful Religion. That interpretation of the Qu'ran is attractive and correct but it is not shared by proverty strickened youth in the Third World who have been misled by self serving clerics to embrace a belief that death is the solution. The belief is widespread that killing a so-called non-believer in the process of self destruction will remove the stigma associated with this act.
The conflict called, " War on Terror", is not directed at the Religion of Islam, or the extremist factions that use this tactic as a weapon, but is a measure of self defense supported by the Qu'ran as a basic right of humanity.
This not a winnable War, in the conventional sense, because it involves individual action which is impossible to discover and prevent. The result of continued acts of terror will be a massive strike against Islamic States which will destroy an already oppressed population.
