Take a stand strong against fundamentalists

Reader comment on item: Islam's Future [Can Be Modern]

Submitted by Michael Haley (United States), Aug 15, 2002 at 00:05

I would like to add that while I support Pipes contention in this article, I think we are in for a long bloody war as well. In order to get there, while looking toward change toward a more peaceful Islam, we have to stand strong against the fundamentalists.

It seems like over and over we learn the lesson that to not stand up to bullies and those who would oppress others means they get stronger. Now is the time to stand up to Islamic fundamentalists who would destroy others lives out of their own sheer hatred and insanity. The fact that I also think that a peaceful Islam is possible I do not feel is contradictory, necessarily. This evil force must be attacked and destroyed with whatever force necessary, and then out of that strong resolution can come a new Islam, a more peaceful Islam.
