Reader comment on item: Islam's Future [Can Be Modern]

Submitted by Jozep (Singapore), Jan 8, 2004 at 11:22

In my view on today's society, practically there's no way that we could turn the world around and saying who's right or who's wrong. For those who believe what they think they believe in. It is sad to say that most of the religion are not what they meant to be. A true religion shall be a religion that is peaceful and does not condemn others believe and religion. Most of the time what I have seen are those racist and extremist who destroy the truth of their own religion. I believe Muslim, Catholicism, Christianity Buddhism, Hinduism or other religion are just a fundamental value in which every believer would learn to be good and the religion itself is somewhat just a pillar of guide that's all. But it seems like in this world there's one too many weird people in interpreting the wrong way.

Comments on Islam's future. From what I can see according to my point of views. This is the point of time, Muslim has gone back to its dark ages or what it can be called as socially degraded & back laid. How many times I have seen the news of some extreme Muslim states & country. Especially when it comes to their own believe, they are prone to look down on other's religion as they have not realized or aware of the time has come that they so far did not learn anything new and totally different of the golden age of Islam where technology were more advanced than any other county back in 15th century.

Talk about what they want in their life as a believer themself, they have created havoc, terrorism and war which are totally unacceptable in today's world. For i believe in each other coexistence with mutual benefit to prosper the whole new world to the next century extending the human reach into space. The sad fact is that, if the whole world is controlled by those so called Muslim. I believe they will bring back our golden technology era to dark ages again and again. What can we do? Start all over and waste decades or century of time?

Especially there's lot's of things they can or cannot do according to the Islamic Law. For me being a Muslim means no life at all. No entertainment or anything. NOt that i want to say Islam is a bad religion but it is the people who intrepret whole concept and makes it unacceptable for me. There are country that forces people to convert especially if you happens to marry a muslim. But who none other religion emphasise on this? In this case if it happens Muslim shall not marry to others with different religion for they seems to force people to choose. Which is what i do not like. And somehow i have seen some hypocrisy in it that to me being a muslim is totally unacceptable for me.

News of Students in Europe including Singapore or other westernized country having court cases regarding headscarf issue. How about in those muslim country, where people with different religion were forced to wear headscarf or none revealing clothes especially in Saudi arabia and Some parts of Malaysia? Such an irony is that those people who is not a muslim at all never even complain or brings this matter to court. In fact that they were barred from celebrating christmas gathering at home and were asked to disperse. The sad fact is that all are relatives trying to have a good time celebrating the birth of Jesus.

The reason i write this article is not because i dislikes their teaching, but it is based on the true fact on what i have read, saw and feel with my own eyes after living in a muslim country for almost 2 decade. As for the rest of the decade, i shall not go back to those muslim country as what i have done right now. I rather stays away from them. Thank You and please do not edit.
