Reader comment on item: Islam's Future [Can Be Modern]

Submitted by Mathiaslink (United States), Aug 13, 2002 at 14:15

Regarding your most recent posting, ISLAM'S FUTURE, I can understand the feeling of your readers regarding this religion. I think if ISLAM changes basic fundamentals as laid down in the Koran, it will cease to be ISLAM.

Making the changes such as have occured in Turkey (the most liberal of Islamic countries I think) simply attempt to change ISLAM into something it is not.

I think you are splitting hairs when you attempt differentiation between Militant Islam and Islam. Perhaps Militant Islam is the only true Islam.

It's true that some Muslims have moderated interpretations of Islam but it's easy to argue that the Koran does not support such modifications of a text that was to never be modified. I think the Koran to its credit is quite plain and straight forward and easy to follow should one subscribe to it.

In this day of treading lightly on politically correct agendas we must also look at the 'quacking duck' here.
