Reader comment on item: Islam's Future [Can Be Modern]

Submitted by Russ Parker (United States), Aug 13, 2002 at 11:26

I certainly appreciate your efforts to bring some understanding to this very difficult subject. A balanced perspective will serve to buy some time perhaps. And I am not asking for you to open up your personal beliefs for all to see, but what is not being addressed, for whatever reason, is the spiritual reality of what is now taking place on the surface of this planet. There are many religions today. Most are the creation of man to serve man's needs. They are earthly, worldly, without real life or substance. People need and use them for their own purposes. Then there are those faiths that are born of spirit. They are not the creation of man. Here is where you and I may part company, but, please, hear me out. This, of course, is an oversimplification.

Throughout all history, secular and religious, there runs the thread of the faith that has been made plain for all to see. It comes from the one true God and will never be changed or destroyed by man. The truth is, that man is either changed or destroyed by it. Those who reject God's truth have nothing left but darkness and lies. And what we are witnessing today in the ranks of those who have rejected the truth and embraced Islam, is the inevitable consequence of them having done so. I agree that the fringe fanaticism that openly displays such violence and distorted reality are easy targets. But everyone will be tested. And who we are will be known.

There are only two sides to choose from. So, in reality, being a moderate Muslim is no different than being a violent one, except for the outward manifestations. Which is what everyone seems to be so concerned with. You know, upsetting my day, bothering my life and happiness, taking up my precious time. Right here in my own America no less!

When we see clearly we will be able to speak clearly regardless of the current political/cultural correctness.
Thank you for your work. You strain against larger giants than I.

God bless you.
