In the US, more and more women are learning gun safety and shooting skills, and keeping guns in their homes for self-protection. Where it's still legal, they also keep them in their cars to prevent car-jackings and abductions. We've had quite a few children in carseats abducted during car-jackings. We have a huge and growing fundamentalist Islamic population, and some women I've spoken with are becoming concerned because they read about the gang-rapes in Muslim countries--especially ones like Pakistan, where in rural villages, judges actually sentence women to be gang-raped because of some social faux pas by a father, brother, or husband.

I consider that feral behavior--more like early primates than human-beings. Even if they try to make guns illegal, I doubt Americans would give them up. I know many target shooters, hunters, and people who just keep guns for home defense, and to a person, they've indicated they will not give them up like the UK and AU did. It could get interesting after the election, since Obama is ahead overall in the polls, and he's staunchly anti-gun (although he's recently said he doesn't mind hunters! LOL! Our constitution doesn't say anything about hunting--it says we have a right to keep and bear arms for self defense!).

Things are going to get very interesting in my lifetime, it appears. We also have a big problem with Christian fundamentalists in the US. Even the president puts religion over science, and we've had some wealthy people build a fake "museum" to support their religious doctrine. I thought that would never happen in the US, but even when I was a child, the religious zealots got into power and added the word "God" to our pledge of allegiance, our money, etc. and fundamentalists closed down many of my parents' favorite recreational facilities.

Craziness everywhere. I've found myself thinking I don't want to bring children into the world the way it's going, but so many Northern European Americans are choosing that, we're a vanishing breed. Islam is the second fastest growing religion in the US, behind fundamentalist Christianity. The Baptists have actually fired tenured female professors from their colleges in a regression to ancient Paulism. Jesus would turn in his grave, I think!
