Folk Islam can also be militant and intolerant at times, however it not makes violent jihad as the center of its agenda. In the past the "folk Islam" ressorted to violence mostly in the cases of external agression or power vacuum. In general, the traditional-conservative Islam considered jihad as the matter of Muslim rulers, not that of individual Muslims.
