"nor does it flow from the religion of Islam, which just a generation ago did not inspire such murderousness."

I'm quite tired of this argument by assertion, and one, which I might add, the Jihadi apologists use themselves to cloak their activities among us. I think the reason Islam was relatively quiescent a couple generations ago is because it was following its natural course downward into oblivion. It clearly is an outmoded and retrograde religion and governing system, as we see wherever Sharia is implemented today. Mr. Pipes blithely overlooks the influence of the influx of several TRILLION DOLLARS into the coffers of Islam's proponents over the last 4 decades -- Islam's proponents have used only the merest fraction of that windfall to their advantage - -it's enabled them to infiltrate our societies, export their Imams, their overflow populations, and thousands upons thousands of Mosques into our domains.

This unprecedented influx of CASH, along with the technical assistance we alwo provided, revitalized the cultures of Pan-Islam -- and permitted decaying Muslim societies to breed in unprecedented numbers, and to enjoy unearned windfalls of material and medical aid -- these in turn permitted them, on our nickel, to lift themselves from their self imposed deplorable condition. The triumphalism which is central to Islam was given a new and deadly force with those influxes from the first world of America and Europe.

Without the accident of oil, Islam would be asleep. It's a beast which is reawakened when there's a will and a way. Prior to this recent quiescence Mr. Pipes refers to, we must also remember that Muslims have rampaged across Europe, Africa, India, Persia, Asia, and the Balkans leaving hundreds upon hundreds of millions dead, enslaved, or perpetually indentured to Islam. In this regard, asserting that terrorism and all the horrors we see rife in the Muslim world has nothing to do with religion per se, "nor does it flow from the religion of Islam" couldn't be more wrong. Islam is central.
