Reader comment on item: How to End Terrorism:

RE: "Although theoretically possible, the weakness of its advocates at present makes moderate Islam appear impossibly remote. But however dim its current prospects, the success of moderate Islam ultimately represents the only effective form of counterterrorism. Terrorism, begun by bad ideas, can only be ended by good ones."

Your closing paragraph can only send the pessimistic into deep depression. This is as it should be. Until Islam's designated prey hit the rockbottom of despair, false hopes based on the willful perpetuation of false premises will continue to drive civilization toward the abyss. When, and only when, denial is no longer possible, will foolish notions of appeasement and fantastic rescues be discarded. Then, as the surviving entities of history always learned, we will know that some wars are existential and cannot be avoided. They can be only won or lost. In the latter case, the defeated not only lose they disappear. Islam is not seeking accomodation with the West, it is is seeking the humilation of, the victory over and the absorbtion of all others into its tender ..ism.
