Jan,

Just as the blind can not see and the deaf can not hear.. you dont understand the verses of the Quran. it doesn't make sense to you because there is no light in your soul.. your mind has been corrupted by your way of life.

When the disbelievers are cautioned in the Quran of their fate over and over again.. its because of the magnitude and severity of the consequences of their actions, see how merciful Allah (swt) is in warning His creation, and see how congruent the Holy Quran is. There is no ambiguity within the Holy Quran.

As you said:

I wonder however what Allah means when he says that the book is supposed to guide like in surah 2:2: "This is the Book; in it is guidance sure, without doubt, to those who fear Allah"

and that it is a clear book in surah 5:15
"O followers of the Book! indeed Our Messenger has come to you making clear to you much of what you concealed of the Book and passing over much; indeed, there has come to you light and a clear Book from Allah."

sure is clear isn't it. Unlike the Bible or the Torah of today, The Holy Quran is complete and in its original form from the time it was revealed to the Holy prophet. It contains what people have 'concealed' from the original Taurah and Injeel. The Holy Quran is in no need of any tafseer or interpretation, it is some of us who are not pure enough to understand its clear meaning. It is as if you are in a room brightly lit but you can not see what the room contains.. why? you have blind folded yourself. Which is why we have tafseer from a people more learned in the Quran then we. If you disagree.. see how you interpreted the ayah 4:34 "wife beating verse"? to put it in words you can understand.. When Adam(as) was tempted to have the apple by his wife eve, something that was forbidden to then, he should have "guided" her by not doing so. Not in the physical sense by whipping her as you percieve.

And for the verses in which Allah(swt) promises paradise for those who sacrifise for Islam at war, let me bring to your attention a verse just previous to the verses you mention in the same chapter you claim to be violent, Surah At-Tauba, Verse 13:

"Will you not fight people who violated their oaths, plotted to expel the messenger, and took the aggressive by being the first you? Do you fear them? Nay, it is Allah Whom you should more justly fear, if ye believe!"

So obviously if you take verses out of context.. they wont make sense to you.

May Allah(swt) be wif you..

wasalaam.
