It's possible that the end game is even worse than you suggest

We can and should delay acquisition of nuclear weapons by the Muslim countries, but all of history says we cannot keep a lid on the technology and the capability forever.

Once the Muslim countries have nuclear weapons, one or two or a few will inevitably be used, if only because few Muslim countries has ever had a robust peaceful mechanism for transfer of power on the death of the strong man and because the religion still retains its propensity to throw up fanatics.

Like most folks in the world common people in the Muslim nations think that all nuclear weapons are created equal, so they rejoice in attainment of crude city center destroying capabilities which only expose them to potential payback from folks who have attained nation and region destroying capabilities (like the Israelis, Indians, Chinese, British, French), and those who have built continent destroying capabilities (like the US and former Soviet Union).

The Israelis will suffer first and pay back tenfold. Then there will be a pause until we or the Europeans or Chinese suffer and pay back a hundredfold. After another pause we or the Russians will suffer again and pay back a thousandfold - and Islam will again be a religion of scattered nomads.

I'm not, of course, saying that we won't get our hair mussed up a bit during all this, but that's unfortunately about the way I see it going.
