"Moderate Muslims"

Reader comment on item: Sudden Jihad Syndrome (in North Carolina)

Submitted by Ed Gordon (Israel), Mar 15, 2006 at 03:00

In my past comments, and in this one as well, all I can add is that it must be understood that Islam is definitely NOT a religion of moderation. From the outset, Muhammad spread his new found religion by force of arms, and those who did not submit to it's doctrines were (and still are) considered infidels. The main message brought out in the article is that a person can be inspired to carry out some kind of violent act if called upon or inspired to do so.

While this phenomena may not only to be found within Islam (many other people of other religions have carried out violent acts in the name of their religion as well) it does appear that more and more Moslems are "heeding the call". The spread of Islamic based terror is something that we must all deal with. The word Islam, after all, means submission to God's will. Those who do not 'submit' are doomed to pay the consequenses, according to the tennants of this religion.

Unfortunately, human society worldwide is becoming more violent; and religious inspired violence is part of this trend. But while Americans are casting a suspicious eye towards their Muslim neiighbors, they should also be concerned about what is happening by non-Muslims as well, with more and more incidents like teenage shooting attacks in schools, and the recent church burnings in the state of Alabama carried out by young white protestant youths from 'good families'.

Getting bact to the problems concerning 'moderate Muslims', with present goings on the Middle East, especially in Iraq, I fear that more and more moderate Muslims will heed the call of their radical bretherin to take up the sword of violence over the olive branch of peace.
