in response to reader comment: Re: Tariq's "Islam the religion of peace does not allow this"

Real Islam has the Sufi tradition, of piety, contemplation, and balance. It is based on the life of the soul, and direct experience of G-d. The Sufi tradition redeems and purifies the evil of the Arab conquest, which caused the writing of the Qu'ran and the authoring of the Hadith, long after the death of the putative Mohammed.

False Islam is the Hanabi tradition, where all but the Qu'ran and Hadith are rejected, and the petrodollars of the Saudis have corrupted it with the usual evils of established religion: Greed, lust for power, and coercion.

Islam is not unique. Christianity was developed as the established religion of the Roman Empire, by Contantine, and as an established religion the faith and piety were superceded by greed, corruption and coercion. Only the later protestant reformation redeemed the evil of Christianity as an established religion, and competition from protestants led to a spiritual renewal in the Catholic Church.

Buddhism had the same problem. Zen priests traveled throughout the Pacific war zone, instructing on the proper method of beheading prisoners.

The true problem is not so much any religion, but established religion, which always seems to morph into a tyranny over the mind of man.
