Sudden American Student Rampage Syndrome

Reader comment on item: Sudden Jihad Syndrome (in North Carolina)

Submitted by Gerard Tan (Australia), Jun 12, 2007 at 05:51

Great article. It reminds me of another scourge facing civilised society. This is what I have dubbed the American Student Rampage Syndrome, whereby normal-appearing American students abruptly become violent. It has the awful but legitimate consequence of casting suspicion on all Americans. Who knows whence the next school shooter will come? How can one be confident a law-abiding American student will not suddenly erupt in a homicidal rage? Yes, of course, their numbers are very small, but they are disproportionately much higher than among non-Americans.
