Jihad and Moderate Muslim/Islam

Reader comment on item: Sudden Jihad Syndrome (in North Carolina)

Submitted by Jaladhi (United States), Mar 16, 2006 at 09:49

There is nothing sudden and new about jihad in a Muslim life. It's a holy duty of all Muslims and it is taught to them from the day they start learning about their religion. It's only the westerners who do not understand the true nature of Islam are surprised when westen born and educated Muslims and the converts carry out actions like those of Taheri and quite a few others (British born train bombers). What can be done about eliminating the concept of jihad from their religion. Definitely nothing because the religion will probably cease to exist if jihad and the war against non-believers was completely removed from their religion.

As many have said on this board that a moderate Muslim/Islam does not exist in this world. And I am sure many westerners do not belive this. However, this question should be sent to the religious authorities in Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Egypt and see if they can confirm the existence of moderate Muslim/Islam. I doubt very much that they will agree with the west's imaginary moderate Islam. For that matter, how does one define a moderate Muslim/Islam?
