Stay out of the Kitchen

Reader comment on item: Sudden Jihad Syndrome (in North Carolina)

Submitted by Howard E. Cook (United States), Mar 14, 2006 at 11:09

"If you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen," Harry Truman famously remarked. Which prompts two comments:

1) >"Individual Islamists may appear law-abiding and reasonable, but they are part of a totalitarian movement, and as such, all must be considered potential killers." I wrote those words days after September 11, 2001, and have been criticized for them ever since.< . ...Did you ever expect not to be criticized?

2) >Muslims should address this fear by developing a moderate, modern, and good-neighborly version of Islam that rejects radical Islam, jihad, and the subordination of "infidels." Since all Muslims draw their inspiration from Mecca and the Koran, can we reasonably expect a variety of opinion to come from a common sacrocanct source?
