Louise,

You write, "I find it so difficult to understand why a stupid cartoon could illicit such violence and strength of emotion..."

Additionally, many of us here in the Colonies find it difficult to understand the failure of our media (primarily the print folks) to aggressively support those European outlets that printed the cartoons. There were very few cries for "Freedom of the Press." Many spineless editors here.

The episode was a very dark day for a print media that is dying here.
