An unfortunate reality

Reader comment on item: Sudden Jihad Syndrome (in North Carolina)

Submitted by Kevin M (United States), Mar 14, 2006 at 09:59

This is precisely the awkward reality that we all now face. What gremlin exists within Islamic doctrine that legitimizes--and perhaps even encourages--wanton acts of violence? Is there some element of self-pity that is hardcoded into Islamic belief? If more Muslims were capable (like Dr. Wafa Sultan) of viewing Islamic society from the outside, regarding the behavior of Muslims through the eyes of one not compelled to accept or support Islamic thought, then a true reformation would be possible. Only Muslims will bring this about.

But as long as the Islamists are calling the shots in the Middle East and this country continues to allow Islamist mullahs and imams to helm the mosque pulpits, the profluence of Jihadis will continue. And we will continue to be "shocked" at how many "Joe Average Muslims" flip out and end their own lives in some personal jihad.
