Interesting...but....

Reader comment on item: Sudden Jihad Syndrome (in North Carolina)
in response to reader comment: Sudden Jihad, a misnomer

Canada does indeed have anti-hate laws...but they are such a problem...and I don't think the problem actually lies in the text of the Koran itself -- but in the minds of those reading it -- it's in those *interpretations.* It all gets back to how you interpret what you're reading...and religious texts demand scrutiny...(I once read an article in the newspaper of a rabbi who read the Koran and said, "there's nothing wrong with it. It's a message of peace." that's what the rabbi said, I recall being infuriated at the time...)

Anyway, in the Muslim world, banning the text wouldn't actually help matters -- many have it entirely memorized...sing off the lines by heart...(recall the Prophet was illiterate.) I have some problems (on a debate level) with certain beliefs of "fundies" but, isn't that the mark of a tolerant society, that we can (so long as the fundies don't start abusing others, preaching hatred or being overtly racist) put up even with the fundies?? If a Muslim wants to pray 5 times a day, eat only certain halal foods, etc, etc, avoid alcohol, etc., etc, so what? The problems only begin when they start to fund terrorist groups, support Hamas, claim suicide bombers are heroes, want to wipe off Israel, lie about what terrorists are doing, (ie., behave like psychopaths) etc.
