Muslim denial

Reader comment on item: Cartoons and Islamic Imperialism
in response to reader comment: Muslims are peaceful...

How can you claim Muslims are peaceful when so many commit violence in Allah's name?

In postings on this very page, your fellow Muslims are calling for violence and world domination by Islam. Around the world, Muslims protest being called "violent" with agression and violence. The deadly riots to the Mohammed cartoons are only one visible example of this. The killing of those who dare speak against Islam, such as Theo Van Gogh is another. The "smiling bomber" in Bali is another. Recent burning effigies of the Pope, firebombing churches, shooting of nuns, threats and calls to Jihad, following the Pope's comments are yet another.

Muslim leaders criticise Christians and Jews, publically and in no uncertain terms, yet for some reason criticism of Muslims is considered a grave offence. Why? How many other religions today do you see blowing themselves up along with others to the cries of "God is great"? How many other religions react so explosively to the opinions of others?

Why does the world have this perception of Muslims? It is not due to ignorance or propaganda of the enemies of Islam -- it's due to the behavior of Muslims themselves.

The Muslim world seems to be in denial about the violence of its own kind. We do not doubt that there are good Muslims, but it is time for the Muslim community to face reality or at least the consequences.
