I can't say that I agree with the Muslims, but...

Reader comment on item: Cartoons and Islamic Imperialism
in response to reader comment: cartoons depicting Muhammad as a terrorist are utterly inaccurate, by Karen Armstrong

As has been posted earlier to criticize one writer, I will go ahead and admit that I am not studied in the texts of the Koran... So I'm not going to try to defend it. However, as a Christian...the group that was added under a grandfather clause to Jewish history...the Old Testament is FULL of killing in the name of God.

I don't say this because I think what is happening now, OR then, was a good take on what I see as the driving force behind what I believe. However, it is not appropriate to condemn the violence of the past in one religion without offering the same attention to what has happened in others, including my own. Then we have to look at current actions of believers, based on those ancient texts as well.

I am glad that in my country, religious extremists don't have swords, but in the context of the society where I live, we can be just as cruel to each other...even people of faith. I don't need to worry about what the Muslims think of me, there are plenty of Christians who hate me because I'm not conservatively extreme enough.

Oops- my error...I thought we were called to be people of love.

Sure....I DON'T understand what it is like to live in such a violent society...I hope I never have to live with that so close to home. I understand that there are many Muslims who would like to wipe me off the face of the earth...but for all of those who are pointing fingers, I just wanted to remind you that THEY are not the only ones. There are people who CLAIM to believe what I believe myself, who would do the same, even if the means for doing so might be different....in afew cases, not so very different.
