Dear Mr. Pipes,

I agree with your observations but not your conclusions.

Just as a commited addict to cocaine or alcohol needs to reach rock bottom to face reality before recovery, so too does the islamist need to hit bottom to stop the denial. I'd like to point out that it took a traumatic event in the life of Wafa Sultan to shake her out of her complacent addiction to islam. She made a remarkable recovery and is one of the ex-moslem women I most admire.

I believe your view that the moslem world should engage the west and not isolate itself only prolongs the illness. The sooner we separate, the sooner the collapse, the sooner the real recovery will begin. In fact, I would much prefer that we had a complete disengagement ala (no pun intended) N. Korea or Cuba. That way, nuclear weapons aside, the inevitable implosion will not impact us directly.
