Consequences for the West

Reader comment on item: How the Cartoon Protests Harm Muslims [by Leading to a Separation of Civilizations]

Submitted by Alex (United States), Feb 15, 2006 at 12:20

I am wondering what Dr. Pipes thinks the Western response will be. Will the West also disengage from the Islamic world (or will it even have a choice)? Will this reaction increase support for a withdrawal from Iraq and Afghanistan?

Daniel Pipes replies:

I am arguing here that the West is disengaging from the Muslim world, as well as the opposite. I do expect it will lead to a disillusionment with the efforts in Afghanistan and Iraq.
