Islam's Double Standard

Reader comment on item: How the Cartoon Protests Harm Muslims [by Leading to a Separation of Civilizations]

It's truly amazing that Muslims are so offended by caricatures of Mohammad but have no problem destroying thousand year old artifacts (recall the giant sculptures destroyed by the Taliban) of other cultures. Wasn't Mohammad just a man? The other monotheistic faiths forbid the displaying of God. Now it seems Mohammad is also divine, while Jesus and Moses are merely human.

They demand that Westerners adhere to Islamic religious beliefs, to the extent that we limit our own freedom of speech. At the same time, they have no trouble destroying Christian and Jewish monuments throughout the Middle East and limiting the rights of non-Muslims in Muslim-dominated countries.

If they devoted half as much energy to improving their own lot as they do to seeking the destruction of the West, the Middle East would become a paradise.

The caricature of Mohammad with a bomb in his turban is the result of more than thirty years of Muslim terrorists attacking embassies, shooting up airports, hijacking airplanes, murdering disabled senior citizens before throwing them over the side of a tour boat, and countless other atrocities, culminating in the 9/11 attacks - all to the applause of their fellow believers. Muslims have only themselves to blame for the adverse view others may have of their religion.
