To silent majority; Speak Up

Reader comment on item: How the Cartoon Protests Harm Muslims [by Leading to a Separation of Civilizations]

Submitted by Max Heller (United States), Feb 17, 2006 at 19:38

I think the silent majority in Islam, especially those in the west, will have to speak up and stop letting the extremists set their agenda. A few are already beginning to be heard. It will take a long time, but eventually they'll prevail. The actions of the extremists can only lead to disaster - the US and Europe for their own survival will eventually have to respond with Draconian measures.

The moderates were in control for hundreds of years during the "golden age" of Islam when they had moderate rulers, philosophers and mathematicians. Then the fanatics swept from North Africa and their repressions brought about the wars which they lost to Spain and its allies.
