Islamic scholars have an explanation

I understand according to foremost scholars on Islam that it is the prime directive for ALL moslems to defend Islam under all circumstances as all other religions are either false or incomplete.

However showing a barbaric defense is actually not a defense but the opposite because it does not defend the faith but isolates it and takes any impression of being a peaceful religion away. Even the most peaceful practioners have trouble overcoming the "Islam Ober Allis" syndrome instead of converting to the "I'm sorry about what you are missing" attitude which took hundreds of years and Dutch and US practice to evolve.
