Reader comment on item: How the Cartoon Protests Harm Muslims [by Leading to a Separation of Civilizations]

Submitted by Gabriel Grosso (Italy), Feb 15, 2006 at 13:32

"9/11 caused a significant increase of obstacles to Muslims travelling to the West". Did it? Border-control should be taken a bit more seriously.

Ten years ago, some Europeans used to say that our coast-line was too long and we could not guard it all. GOOD EXCUSE. I don't think the situation is any better in the USA, at least according to what I have heard. 9/11 ought to have caused those obstacles, but it didn't. Ten years ago, this statement would have been followed by a cry of "racist, racist, racist". Talking about illegal immigration could damage your reputation forever. Let us be wiser and more reasonable now. If somebody from the Middle East wants to take flighing lessons, what are you going to do? Tell me that I am a "racist". Or just think that I am not racist and use your common sense.
