"Proud to be a Muslim"

Reader comment on item: Churches in Saudi Arabia?
in response to reader comment: Ka'ba

Dear Dr Pipes,

By his own admission your reader "proud to be a Muslim" (PTBM) agrees that before Islam Ka'ba was a place where people of many different origins shared their social, cultural, and religious lives. By his own statement, PTBM agrees that Islam destroyed the metropolitan nature of Ka'ba and converted it to a place where only one kind of thought prospers and all other thoughts are curbed. Just like Jerusalem is called the holy land, perhaps, Ka'ba could also have grown to be a truly metropolitan/multi-cultural/tolerant city that we so much appreciate if Islam had not taken it over. Should PTBM be as proud as he is?
