Two Questions

Reader comment on item: Churches in Saudi Arabia?

Submitted by Rafi (United States), Apr 20, 2008 at 02:09

Dear Dr. Pipes:

Just two questions:

1. If Islamic countries, such as Saudi Arabia, allow Christians to build churches, will they allow Muslims to convert without fear of being killed, as was the case recently in Afganistan?

2. If Islamic countries want international law to prohibit defamation against Islam, will those countries punish those within their border which print vicious anti-Jewish comments and cartoons? I am not holding my breath for a Muslim equivalent to the Federalist Papers on the role of government and its relation to the governed, but, I am neverthless curious.

Sincerely,
Rafi Marom

Daniel Pipes replies:

1. There is some movement (e.g., in Turkey) toward letting Muslims leave Islam, but it is not likely to spread to Saudi Arabia anytime soon.

2. There is no sign that the Judaism will enjoy the same privileges as Islam.
