Claire,

(1) Quran is not a scientific book, it does not prove formulae or prove a theory –

(2) However the slight mention of something that was not know is a miracle by it self – would you say that people around that time knew that the the galaxies are actually moving away from each others – when this knowledge was known.

a. Would you say the people in that era know that the mountains are like pegs in earth

b. Would you say that the people knew that everything in heavens was one single point and then were parted asunder.

c. Did they know that the dead sea was the lowest spot on earth

d. Did they know what happens to the soil when drops of water falls on them – only by using powerful microscopes they knew what happens.

e. Did they know that only the She/spider makes the webs.

f. They do not have large huge mountains, high rise mountains in Arabia not like mount everest, yet the Quran explains what a person feels when he fly/mount in high altitudes and will have breathing problems.

g. A prediction that man will reach the moon by a rocket that has many stages

h. That there will be 11 planets circling the Sun

i. That the sun moves, not stagnant and that the moon and the earth move too - that the earth is round

j. Galilleo during the Middle ages told his people that the Earth is round. they wanted to kill him, because they believed it was flat and everything was revolving around it including the sun, this idea suited them. He later had to deny his claim lest they kill him.

k. There are plenty more, check sites on the miracle of the Quran, they will explain to you each topic

How can a person living in the desert, a Bedouin, who have no means of communication except by the camel and they are in the middle of no where to learn such phenomenon unless it was a divine inspiration

See the links, search on the miracle of the Quran on the web, you will find topics about the miracles in the Quran, you will find many in the web.
