"Truth"Reader comment on item: Churches in Saudi Arabia? Submitted by Claire (United States), Apr 27, 2008 at 00:27 I am sorry that people perceive the natural as supernatural. I think it causes more damage than good. It ends up being a way to subjugate people. But I understand that some people associate what happens to them and how they feel with religion. I know some people believe religion brings them comfort and inspiration. I think it's a stage than humankind must go through. And people are very gullible--it seems to have helped the species survive. And religion was an early way to program oneself to seek a better life and an ethical life. And some practices that many associate with religion have been scientifically shown to work without religion--mediation, what is called "prayer," etc. are not actually talking to the supernatural, but aligning oneself with the natural. I think some people really do need religion. But I think human thought has evolved and I think science is going to result in a dramatic shift in our understanding of indoctrination and how religion operates on our nervous systems. Still, if religion works for you, as long as you don't force it on others or hurt others, or diminish others with it, then I think you should be free to believe as you choose.
