Freedom and liberty are my idealsReader comment on item: Churches in Saudi Arabia? Submitted by Claire (United States), May 9, 2008 at 18:54 Emancipation of all people is my ideal. Freedom of people in all walks of life, of both genders, to choose their religious beliefs as long as they don't force it on others is definitely my ideal. Unfortunately, the indoctrinated and those of limited cognitive ability are easily convinced by manipulative others to believe things that limit other people, and the manipulative people are clever and know where to position themselves (as politicians, religious leaders) to be able to tap into people to forward their personal agenda that always results in their own power, prestige, and wealth. As much as I am against China's overt totalitarian dictatorship that doesn't recognize free speech and the right to gather peaceably, I think they have a lot of areas where they are world leaders--as a result of making some disastrous decisions in the past, and stepping up to the plate to deal with very difficult problems and making hard choices before the rest of the world did so. I think all of us can learn from each other. I also think we are on the edge of a breakthrough in science that is leading to regression to the ancient by religious and political powers who have banked on their systems for social control, and whose leaders have learned to operate the old system for their own ends and cling to it. And that's happening pretty much everywhere, from my perspective. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
