If Islam is the "religion of peace", why then did it side with Hitler during WWII, praise that Nazi madman, and help participate in the genocide of Jews?

So who said that Islam sided with Hitler during WW2. There was no Caliph to represent Islam in WW2 and they still isn't one. The only Muslims who sided with Hitler during WW2 were those who wanted independence from Britain and thoses who didn't like the Jews coming into Palestine.
