Moderates and Sharia

Reader comment on item: Europe is Finished, Predicts Mark Steyn
in response to reader comment: some info on Sharia Courts in Canada

Submitted by Octavio Johanson (Italy), Nov 23, 2006 at 07:01

I wish there was a blog about Italy, so I would be better prepared to discuss the issues. In this comment, I am going to use the word "European" to describe all westerners: I hope you won't mind. If you are a moderate in a European country, how do you deal with issues like Sharia Law? If you search Wikipedia for "Sharia Law", you will immediately understand what it is all about. You will also understand that it cannot be applied to a European nation. What are the positions available here, for a moderate? Remember that moderates always point to the center. Let us see:

1) the multiculturalist view is to pretend that everything is fine with Sharia Law

2) The right-wing view is to ban Sharia Law

3) the moderate position is to keep your mouth shut about it.

As a moderate, I always find myself undecided between positions 3) and 2)
