Yet another sequel to Star Wars ?

Reader comment on item: Europe is Finished, Predicts Mark Steyn

Mea culpa. I'm taking a potshot at this book as seen through the reviewer's eyes, which is not necessarily above board. But the book does seem to be yet another installment on the theme of American messianism in the modern world. Is such messianism such an important part of American identity that this identity would collapse without it ? It is unfortunately a constant in human experience that in order for a person (a culture) to feel strong, all powerful, it/he/she needs to create another entity which is then labeled "weak", "decadent" or whatever. Some things never change.
