in response to reader comment: Recent Poll : 96 % Muslims sympathize with Al Qaida and Osama Bin Laden

So, to agree with your assertion that by poll 96% Muslims are sympathetic to al-Qaeda and that Muslims must be either oppressors as a majority or terrorist as a minority; that the only viable answer to this "nature of Islam" is to forgo democracy and the rules of law based on individual rights and freedoms and to adopt the Islamic way of authoritarian dictates?

Personally, I 'd much rather keep and practice individual rights and freedoms and have Islam reform itself, or insist Islam reform to adopt the principles of individual freedom. I'm not willing to curb any freedom for the sake of "protection or security". I think each and every democratic government ought to have the will to face the Islamist fully representing democratic values and to destroy them as they show themselves and to not extend to them the courtesy of any legality.

Muslims are the problem with what is happening with in Islam not democracy. Individual rights and freedoms are no threat to the practice of Islam but, Islam is being used to threaten democracy and the rights and freedoms of the individual. It doesn't make any sense to me to do their work for them by voluntarily surrendering my rights and freedoms and to say "ya, I'm doing this but, it's for my own protection."
You don't fight this kind of thing from behind a barricade. You fight and win by standing solidly behind your principles. Which is why, in the future as in the past, who you choose to represent you will determine whether you build barricades or stand and fight as a free individual. Of course if you have no convictions, your leadership isn't likely to demonstrate any, and this "war" will become a long drawn out matter spanning generations.
