Reader comment on item: Europe is Finished, Predicts Mark Steyn

Submitted by Adam (Australia), Nov 20, 2006 at 19:38

The article by Mark Steyn is out of proporition. Europe is not finished, and after all the GNP of the EU is on par with the US GNP. The value of the Euro is stonger than the US dollar, and I believe soon the euro will replace the US as the accepted internatinal currency.

The writer also mentioned about low birth rates in Euroep and they have to rely on immigration to stop the shortage of workers. What about the USA, birth rates have declined in the USA, and yes there are mass immigration of illegal Mexians to the the USA each year and they are altering the demographic balance of the USA. They now represent (mexicans) 1/2 of California population, and a 1/3 of Texas population. The trend of Mexican immigration has caused lots of debates in immigration to the USA so its not just Europe that has serious debates on immigration.

Plus there are also muslim immigrants still immigrating to the USA, and already recently there is a Muslim elected in the recent election to congress, so muslims will still put their mark in the USA.

Well there is nothing wrong with a nation that has low birth rates. Look at Japan today, and Japan has allowed few immigrants there and the nation population is declining but even so it has not lead to a decline in Japanese economy and even today the economy is there is boombing. I guess the Euroepans that are opposed to immigration should look to Japan as a model.

The writer has indicated that Europe is soft on Islamists, but what about Holland? they recently banned the burka and are considering banning the face veil, and the face veil is still legal in the USA. Also remember France has banned the Hyjab in its public schools.
