Re: Islam or Radical Islam?

Reader comment on item: Europe is Finished, Predicts Mark Steyn
in response to reader comment: Islam or Radical Islam?

Submitted by Octavio Johanson (Italy), Nov 22, 2006 at 11:44

See, these fine academic distinctions are not part of my world. If people want to believe in Islam, I don't see it as a problem. If people want to believe in Radical Islam, it is not a problem either. If they want, they can celebrate the most extreme forms of religion, and that does not bother me at all.

The problem is that these people, with these beliefs, whether moderate or radical, come to Europe. It is not for me to say that Radical Islam is a bigger problem than traditional Islam. It is not for me to comment on Islam at all. However, the growing Muslim presence in Europe IS problem. I don't even try to distinguish between different brands of Islam.

To me, Muslims who live in Europe will have problems with integration, for various reasons. It is not my job to tell them that their views are wrong; it is not my job to tell them that they should believe in a moderate brand of their religion. I don't call them "terrorists". But I know that they will never be integrated into western society.
