Some of this is self evident but not inevitable in Britain. For the continent it could very well be what will happen.

The French and Germans are not interested in a fight even if their own extinction is imminent.

The Italians will fight but on their own that won't help. The Brits have a chance simply because they will take it up to a point and then will happily fight it out.

America may be a greater risk than Steyn thinks, from what I have seen in my lifetime, Americans will fight at the drop of a hat but we really don't like long wars and this will be a long one. It's staying power I'm worried about.
