Is terrorism a global threat?

Reader comment on item: Europe is Finished, Predicts Mark Steyn

Submitted by Ivan Izquierdo (Peru), Nov 14, 2006 at 18:01

More than a comment, my intention is to ask Mr. Pipes and to his experience, if the terrorism from islamist groups can be catalogued as a global threat. As far as I had observed, those groups are attacking the "West" in specific locations. We can mention USA, England, Spain, Israel (Is that west?), and in other non western countries like Indonesia, and Filippines. So the so called "War against terror" promoted by pres. Bush, is a real war west/islam or it's only an exaggeration. In the area I live (south america) so far there's no problem with islam at all, problably due to the very small population or terrorist interests.

Thank You for your answer.

Daniel Pipes replies:

Argentina experienced two major terrorist attacks in the mid-1990s. As have Morocco, Algeria, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and many other majority-Muslim countries. So, "global" is a pretty good description.
