Love - Hate Relationship with Europe

Reader comment on item: Europe is Finished, Predicts Mark Steyn
in response to reader comment: Steyn's way of putting his words isn't any helpful

Maybe Mark Steyn feels something like the way I do.

In many ways I really, really love Europe and it gives me a pain in the pit of my stomache when I think about where it's going. On the other hand, I also really, really hate Europe and take my full shadenfreude that it's getting what it has asked for and deserved. Betraying and deceiving themselves, betraying America, and turning again to a vile Anti-Semitism under a transparently disgiused name. Orwellian irrationality and meanness rule. But even that schadenfreude hurts. Sorry. I don't mean to attack you personally. It's clear you are going through your own sense of bewilderment and suffering regarding the future of Europe, and we here are not going to escape without harm either.

I can appreciate your sense of anxiety as being a few steps ahead of what is sure to come here in some years, whether to a lesser degree or not. If we don't get a complete change in President and Congress soon, we'll be in a big predicament as well.

You've probably read Bat Ye'or's "Eurabia" or at least the summaries that are easily available on the internet. But here anyway is a link to a speech of hers --

Historian Bat Ye'or 2-17-05 Hudson Institute on "Eurabia: The Euro-Arab Axis"

We can hope, but it's not likely that in a year or so the U.S. media will get honest. They're at a very disgraceful point right now. We can only find significant news on the Internet -- but the U.S. has just caved to European pressure and given up control of it, to be, as Obama loves to say, "fair" (no matter how destructive that phoney "fairness" turns out to be) -- whatever that will mean! I can only guess Obama and his cronies have done that because our laws wouldn't permit censorship of speech, but European or Transnational laws can.

Also, Obama has signed us on to a UN HRC Resolution condemning and criminalizing speech that criticizes religion. That's totally against our Free Speech Constitutional Laws, but he's done it anyway. And there's ZERO news about it.

The people Obama's put in place to control communications (FCC) have spoken of how they admire Chavez who has shut down all media outlets in Venezuela that expressed any opposing opinions.) They're working on their gruesome plots. Where it will lead, we don't know. If our free speech is chilled, and the Internet too, all bets are off.

Good luck to you. I hope you find a way to fare well for yourself during the coming hard years. Get a mate -- have some fun.
