An observation

Reader comment on item: Is Allah God? - Continued
in response to reader comment: When did Arabic Christians employ "Allah" in the Arabic Bible?

Submitted by Dudley Powell (United Kingdom), Nov 2, 2019 at 13:07

I have Arab Christian friends in a number of countries. They informs me of two things relating to the use of Allah for God of the Bible. First there is no other word for God in Arabic. Secondly, linguistically it comes from the Hebrew root El for God. I also have an introduction to the Hebrew of the Bible. The first chapter is an explanation of the links of all the semitic languages. Arabic is in the southwestern group and Hebrew in the northwestern group. But they both historically have similar roots, so it should be no surprise that Egyptian Christians use Allah, and to use anything else is offensive. The real issue is how the word Allah /God is understood and Christians take their understanding [rightly] from the Bible. Moslems take their understanding from the Koran.
