You are such a 'kidder' ...

Reader comment on item: Is Allah God? - Continued
in response to reader comment: The usual santimonious absolutism from Oliver

The word adonai (or its variants) appears about 327 times in the Hebrew text.

The word YHVH (or its variants) appears about 7875 times in the Hebrew text.

The word kurios appears about 2906 times in the Greek LXX text.

The word LORD appears about 7214 times in the English NASB text.

Psalm 8:1 O LORD, our Lord, How majestic is thy NAME in all the earth ...

Psalm 8:9 O LORD, our Lord, How majestic is thy NAME in all the earth!

WOW - you sure like chasing your tail ... or is it mine?

Adonai is a perfectly good Hebrew word that means Lord in English and is usually 'translated' as Lord in English. When you see the words YHVH and Adonai together in the Hebrew text - the text is not being redundant - it is simply displaying the NAME of the GOD (YHVH) with His 'title' Lord (Adonai). Now, when a Jew (today) reads the Hebrew text and runs across the NAME of GOD (YHVH) s/he will substitute Adonai for YHVH. Is that sooo difficult to understand? In the Greek LXX sometimes YHVH was translated as Kurios but sometimes as a form of Theos. In Psalm 8 the LXX translates both YHVH and Adonai as a form of Kurios - but the NASB portrays YHVH as LORD and Adonai as Lord. The NASB is clear in their introduction that they use the term LORD for YHVH in defference to the Jewish custom of using Adonai for YHVH.

Sorry - but I can't make 'heads or tails' of the Arabic for Psalm 8 ...
