Allah IS God

Reader comment on item: Is Allah God? - Continued
in response to reader comment: Allah=Allah...no one else

As much as the islamophobic argument contends, the pagan arab god of the moon was not named "Allah", nor do those who swirl this argument around have a shred of evidence to support this contention. If one does just a bit of study regarding ancient arab religion (as opposed to regurgitating sensational info) one finds that there is no real designation of moon gods among the pantheon of gods worshipped by ancient arabs, especially since - contrary to Ditlef Neilson's (1904) erroneous, outdated but oft repeated assertions that moon worship was prevalent among ancient arabs. Later scholars refuted this pointing that many arab "moon gods" were in fact either earthly or solar gods.

The arabic "Allah" is a contraction of "Al ilah", which literally means "the god"...the designation of the word "al" linguistically implies singularity (ie the God, ie, there being no other). Among ancient arabs there lived arab christians and jews who referred to God not as "elohim", nor "yahweh", but literally "Allah", as they did in the time of Muhammad and as they continue to do so today.
