I agree with Tom's thesis that we must first understand what makes us great before we can defeat Islamism. The most crucial value that we must acknowledge is selfishness. The great virtue of the West was in recognizing that individuals are ends in themselves, not a means to the ends of a king or of a society. This is why both the left and the right will not save us. The left thinks morality lies in serving you neighbors, and the right thinks it lies in serving the supernatural. But nobody says that morality lies in serving yourself, in pursuing your life, your liberty, and your happiness.
