Rebuild the Parliament!

Reader comment on item: Britain's Encounter with Islamic Law

Submitted by Man of the West (United States), Feb 13, 2008 at 17:16

I recall reading not long ago that the Commons was trying to take away what little power the Lords retain. As Labour has been the most culpable in pandering to the foreigners, I would humbly suggest that it is the Commons' power that needs restraint. The Lords are truely more rooted in English tradition and customs. Their seats should never be up for election by the wayward souls granted the vote in England.

A purely appointed House of Lords would represent a bulwark against the continued deanglicization of the UK. Since I am an American, I will preempt any responses of hypocrasy by saying that I am, in fact, in favor of an appointed Senate in the Congress.

Pure democracy is a sham (and so is an unchecked legislature), and sometimes rights and traditions are best protected by those who don't have to content the mob.

British law is the preeminent law in the world. Long may it be so.
